Digital Transformation Workshop


Another project that we are working on, uniquely partnering with The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO), to bring a short course on Digital Transformation applicable to advanced manufacturing sectors to the African continent. The course, developed by InnoGlobal through its higher education institute, InnoPharma Education, will be piloted as a skills training initiative funded by the UK Newton Fund, Development in Africa with Radio Astronomy (DARA) Big Data project. SARAO, a delivery partner of the UK-South Africa Newton Fund through the DARA and DARA Big Data projects, will lead the local hosting and implementation of the course with the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) South Africa. 

Workshop

Overview

Digital Transformation refers to the smart integration of technologies, processes and data to improve operational  effectiveness and capability in any environment. This short course builds on the knowledge, skills and  competencies associated with the concepts of smart factory and the evolution of manufacturing from a  traditional reactive process to the emergence of Industry 4.0 and Pharma 4.0.

The course will include:

Research into current and future trends in manufacturing;

The application and impact of the greater use of technology

Data analysis and visualisation of performance

The impact on organisations and levels of maturity to complete such transformations

Ethical and corporate social responsibilities associated with such changes

 

On completion of the course, students will be able to take up employment within organisations that are transforming their  processes to integrate data, new technologies, data analytics improved ways of working and improved support processes.

Course Structure 

The course is divided into 3 components:

4th October 2022 - 2 weeks Online Learning

6th November 2022 - 1 Week intensive in-person workshop in Cape Town

December 2022 - January 2023 - career guidance and mentorship sessions.

Eligibility

South African and African graduates from SKA Partner Countries (Botswana, Ghana,  Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zambia). Applicants must  have a 4-year BSc Honours or BEng degree or currently undertaking or have completed an  MSc or MEng degree.

Funding

Participating students will be offered shared accommodation at the venue for the 1-week  workshop that will include all meals. A limited number of flights will be made available for  international and national participants.
