Ian Jones - Our unique up-skilling approach

Investment in Industry 4.0 skills and technology platforms will have a triple positive impact through maintaining our high-tech manufacturing competitiveness on a global stage, transitioning at-risk individuals into employment within these high-tech sectors and finally achieving ambitious national carbon emission targets.

OUR PURPOSE

The leaders in the room represented close to 50,000 jobs and €73 billion in exports. That is 50,000 people’s lives in terms of jobs, which we want to grow through the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies. (repeated)  We don’t just save lives by developing much-needed medicines, we also change lives by providing great and exciting jobs within the sector. Obviously, no change and transition towards advanced technologies can happen at scale without government and education support. Therefore, we welcome the presence of government and academic partners for the workshop on Pharma 4.0.

The purpose of these workshops is to understand how we can bring Industry 4.0 and Advanced Manufacturing principles to the Life Science sectors. We are also keen to understand how skills overlap with other industries such as the ICT, (Tech) sector – where the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, and programming skills are equally, if not more, relevant.

We are an island of developers and manufacturers, whether we develop code, lifesaving drugs, stents or infant formula – that’s what we do. Innovation and competitiveness are key to that. If we don’t stay competitive, these high-tech industries could migrate out of Ireland. This is not just an Irish problem but a European one. On a European level the council and commissioners are acutely aware that changes need to happen within high- tech manufacturing sectors and skills to support that change. High-tech labour skills are key to maintaining our innovation and competitiveness.

This is where Innoglobal fit in. We help businesses, nations, and global regions make a people-centric, twin transition to a green and digital next-generation economy. We're successfully reshaping how industry and people work. We are working on innovative ways to develop people’s skill sets and grow the talent pool currently available to employers through our unique public-private partnership approach.
