EU WORKSHOP 2

In June 2020, Innopharma hosted the second webinar of the series entitled “The EU Skills Agenda - Advancing Skills for Europe’s Recovery & Competitiveness ”, following on from their first webinar on “The New Industrial Strategy for Europe and prioritising Skills”. The objective of this second webinar was to reflect on the June 8th, 2020 Council conclusions dedicated to advancing skills for Europe’s Recovery and Competitiveness  and to discuss possible solutions and instruments to address this challenge.

The conclusion of the high-tech manufacturing workshop and webinars was that with the right investment in technology infrastructure and skills over the next five years, Europe’s high-tech manufacturing sectors are well-positioned to compete on the global stage and to maintain high-value industries and jobs in Europe for the next twenty years and beyond.

Key Recommendations

Consider the wide-reaching benefits of centralised industry-specific pan-EU reskilling and upskilling initiatives at a significant scale. This type of initiative could have a significant impact across all regions in sustaining the growth of these high-tech sectors while in parallel developing and transitioning citizens from high-risk sectors (such as retail and hospitality) to lower-risk sectors (such as high-tech manufacturing).

Consider the synergies between different policy instruments, for example, education, environment, climate research and development and so forth.

Data needs to be at the centre of the drive for optimised programs, using real-time data analytics to understand precise industry requirements.
