ITUMELENG'S STORY

Coming from Johannesburg, South Africa, I hold a MTech in Chemistry, a BTech in Chemistry and Polymer Technology, and a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry. Before enrolling in the programme, I worked as a Forensic Analyst specializing in fingerprint development, photography, and investigations. However, the wealth of knowledge gained during the programme sparked a realization within me - the potential to establish my own venture. Subsequently, I bid farewell to my previous role and founded 'Nurture Personal Care', a startup dedicated to crafting skincare products enriched with plant oil extracts.

Driven by a passion for Chemistry and Manufacturing nurtured at Cape Peninsula University of Technology and further honed through a master's degree at Tshwane University of Technology, my entrepreneurial journey received a significant boost from InnoGlobal’s Digiskills Africa Programme. Delving into topics such as manufacturing intricacies, smart factory concepts, and Industry 5.0 principles, I embarked on a research quest to develop personalized personal care solutions devoid of harsh chemicals.

During a gap year between my Master's and PhD, my thirst for knowledge led me to explore data science. Enrolling in a Data Science course and subsequently discovering the Digiskills Africa programme through a university connection, I eagerly absorbed insights into Industry 5.0 and digital transformation. Recognising the pivotal role of digital advancements in modern business landscapes, I seized the opportunity to enhance my digital acumen through the programme.

The online lectures and eLearning modules provided by Digiskills Africa proved invaluable in laying the foundation for my company. From grasping manufacturing intricacies to quality assurance protocols and bioprocessing techniques, the program equipped me with essential knowledge crucial for navigating the business landscape successfully. A highlight of the experience was a workshop featuring a Guest Speaker from DHL who shed light on integrating technology into logistics operations and business models. The profound impact of this session reverberated in guiding me as I forged ahead with building my enterprise.

Realizing my long-cherished dream of entrepreneurship has been immensely fulfilling, thanks to the transformative influence of the Digiskills Africa programme. As I chart new territories in pursuit of my passion, I aspire to create opportunities for aspiring graduates within my business - fostering a nurturing environment for research and internships.

Wholeheartedly I recommend this programme to enthusiasts of digital transformation, I have already encouraged my friends to join the upcoming intake. Emphasizing an open-minded approach towards the program's offerings, I attest to its myriad benefits beyond mere job placements. For individuals with computer proficiency, this training presents an array of opportunities waiting to be harnessed - truly life-changing in its potential impact.
